Our first visit to NZ -- On the trail from Dec 1 - 5. The Otago Central Rail Trail was a wonderful experience. Very well organized;staff helpful and friendly. Accommodations good. Food good. Great time to go - not too busy and not too hot.

We completed the trail with 2 other adults from Auckland and had an
amazing experience. We were impressed with the organisation. Weather was
great ( early Nov) and scenery fantastic. Accommodation was really
comfortable and food in all the stops was great. We were sad when it was
all over and are really keen to do it again next year! All in all a
fabulous adventure. Congratulations on the whole Rail Trail venture!!

Wow, what a fantastic holiday we had, completed the trail from Clyde to Middlemarch in October this year. As a family this has to be one of the best things you can do, and my 11-year-old daughter who completed it, solo, was absolutely thrilled to finish. She especially liked the "Inns' we stayed in. Can't wait to come back one day.

I completed the rail trail in 5 days April 2010 with a group of 10 friends. Had an absolute blast. Spectacular scenery. Great accommodation. Food and wine. We were all actually quite sad to be getting off the bikes by the end despite not being especially fit to start with. We travelled east(Middlemarch) to west(Clyde) and had no problems.I'm a travel agent and have been recommending this to everyone I can think of.

Spring feedback from Susan Jackson
Last week from Sunday to Wednesday (Sept 20 - Sept 23, 09) a group of five of us completed the Rail Trail. What a fantastic experience - the scenery was wonderful, the weather was great until the last day when it was a tad windy from the south. Great accommodation and food available at all our stopovers. Being out of season we were often the only guests so were well looked after and had the facilities virtually to ourselves. The animals were so close - sheep - lambs being born, cattle, birds. the trees were all showing or coming out in their spring growth(fabulous greens), blossom in all its splendor. We managed to hire a car at Wedderburn and spent an afternoon at St Bathans and Naseby. All in all a very special time. Thank you to you all who are part of the Rail Trail, it is a credit to you.

We completed the trail in our 5 days on the 1st Jan (09). We had no problems or flat tyres and the weather was perfect. We thoroughly recommend the trail and our chosen hosts were all that can be expected. The food was also terrific in the local pubs and towns.

We have just biked the rail trail for the 4th time, we have done it for the past 4 years, each spring. We just love it and would recommend it to all!! The lovely locals, great accomodation and beautiful scenery make it a fantastic weekend. Well done, Otago, what an asset you have made yourselves. We will certainly be back, and hope to get a certificate once we've completed it for the 25th year!!

I have just completed the Rail trail last week (April 24th). I am such a fan of it , this was my second time that I have cycled the trail in the past 2 years. I had a marvellous time again staying in some really funky accommodation in various places. We stopped off at a number of pubs along the way to participate in a 'Speights'. Most of the pubs were excellent particularly Chatto Creek and Omakau.

We recently completed the Rail Trail but, as the stamp was missing, were unable to add Alexandra to our passport booklets. I understand I can send them back to you to have the missing stamp added. Could you please advise me of the process for this, i.e. to whom and where do we send them?
We had a great trip and were particularly impressed with the trialside information signs, the trail condition, our accommodation choices (bar 1) and Trail Journeys from whom we hired our bikes. Many thanks - a great experience for young (11), old (77) and all between.
Otago Central Rail Trail Trust: Local idiots must take the blame for no Passport self-inking stamp at the Alexandra Station. When the stamp was stolen for the fourth time, which meant sawing through stainless steel securing cable, the Trustees felt reluctant to give the perpetrators the satisfaction of stealing a fifth.
The Trustees apologise for this inconvenience but do point out that Passports can be stamped with 'Alexandra' at Trail Journeys at the Clyde start/end of the trail, in Alexandra at the i-Site & Altitude Bikes (both in Centennial Ave) and also DOC (opposite the Rail Trail just before/after the Alexandra Station site), and Chatto Creek Tavern.
Another option is to send Passports missing the Alexandra or any stamps to Otago Central Rail Trail Trust, PO Box 399, Alexandra 9340.

15 heart-patients rode half the trail on 15th-16th Nov '07. No problems, all loved it and absolutely thrilled with hospitality and food at Omakau Commercial Hotel. Plan to do the other half next year. Congratulations on a great routel

Its good to bike on the rail trail as I did it in the New Year as it was wonderful with mostly good weather except a few nor westerelies now and again. But one or two things what I would like to say with the WHAT TO TAKE with you on the railtrail isNo 1 is a mobile phone to contact friends or relatives No 2 If you are using a bike on the rail trail is to ensure you would need to take a few cycle spares and tools with you in just in case because if you breakdown you could be along way from anywhere.Actually I was very thankful when my bike broke down at Ida Valley with a broken rear wheel gear derailleur I had a spare one with me It could had been far worse without one.

As I live near the rail trail, I often ride various bits between Omakau and clyde. However, today i went from Omakau to Wedderburn, and met lots of magpies with anger management problems. Living in the area , I was not surprised, as it occurs all around Central, but wonder if it might be of interest to visitors, that in Springtime magpies can be very territorial. I checked to see if this information was mentioned, and can't find it. They are harmless, but could give someone unsuspecting a fright. (Oct 14, 2007)

Last week 4 of us comeplted the rail tral from MiddleMarch to
Clyde. It was a fantastic experience. Despite being told by the locals
thay we where a bunch of mad Aussies, we found everyone we encountered on
the trail to be freidly and helplful. This added to the enjoyment of the
trip. We did get wet one day, but this only made the ride more memorable.
It is a really great trail and one I can see becoming more popular over
time. I am sure I will be back to do the trail again. Keep up the good
work, I wish we had trails in Australia that were as good.
