Trail Journeys is a local business and is the largest, longest established operator on the Otago Central Railtrail. Along with all the other services required to do the Otago Central Railtrail (bike hire, accommodation, guided tours), Trail Journeys offer bus and van transport for cyclists on the Otago Central Railtrail. We transfer cycles, luggage and clients daily during the season.

We can also arrange to take you to the outback Central Otago to experience many of the excellent off road trails available in our area.

Our 4WD custom coach can carry 12 persons, and our specialised trailer takes your bikes and gear to the most exciting places available for cycling in Central Otago.

Organised tours can be arranged for groups up to 20 persons.

We now have three 19 seater coaches, 12 mini vans and 14 shuttle trailers at our disposal.

MIDDLEMARCH:

We are located at 20 Swansea Street, on the Main Highway through Middlemarch, We offer showers, internet access and have diesel and petrol self service fuel pumps.

Flying into Dunedin International Airport? Going on the Taieri Gorge Railway to start your Rail Trail adventure at Middlemarch?

We will meet you on arrival at Dunedin Airport and then collect your rental car from Dunedin Railway Station.

Finishing your Otago Central Rail Trail experience by travelling to Dunedin on the Taieri Gorge Railway?

We will meet you at Wingatui or Dunedin Railway Station with your hire car

Tour around Dunedin and Otago Peninsula, view the wildlife, travel to The Catlins, leave your rental car at Dunedin Airport, Bus Terminal or Motel, we will collect

Other pick up and drop off points by arrangement, i.e. Middlemarch (conditions may apply)

We deliver the rental vehicle to you, and collect again at the end of your hire

Rail Trail Flying Visit from Queenstown (four to four and a half hours)

We fly groups of up to seven per aircraft from Queenstown to an airstrip near Auripo Road, the closest station site to the magnificent Poolburn Gorge with its viaduct, two long tunnels and breathtaking scenery (don't forget your camera). At Auripo you'll be fitted out with purpose-built bikes and helmets for the 10.5km downhill ride to Lauder and its historic hotel. From there it's a flat 7km pedal to Omakau before an exhilarating downhill coast to Chatto Creek and transport waiting to take you to the airfield at Alexandra for the flight back to Queenstown. Refreshment at Chatto Creek and other country hotels on the trail not included in this package. Please bring water bottles (at least two litres). We require the approximate height of each client to get the best fit with the bike. Children's bikes are also available.

Prices : $425 per adult, $215 per child (2-13years)
