A tarsealed 2km from the start/finish of the Otago Central Rail Trail, Strathmore was once the bakery building and gardener’s cottage for the formerly massive Gladbrook Sheep Station. Dry stone walls and other extensions were added to original stonework that dates back to the 1880’s to create Strathmore B & B shown in these photographs.

Accommodation for up to five is in the old bakery to the left of the photograph. The two bedrooms, one a queen with a single and the other a double, are beautifully furnished providing all the comforts of home including Freeview digital TV and coffee & tea making facilities. The larger room also has cosy armchairs. The bathroom is share but Joan and Merv promise you will not be meeting strangers in the night. Under floor heating is just one of the bathroom’s luxury touches. A bonus for summertime guests is a wonderful lounging-barbecue area and in ground swimming pool.

Country-style cooked breakfast is served in the host’s homestead. Dinner is available by prior arrangement. Merv and Joan will happily transport guests between Strathmore B & B and the Rail Trail start/finish as well as to and from Pukerangi on days the Taieri Gorge train does not come into Middlemarch.
