The loud thud of postal clerks stamping mail is a very distant echo replaced by the whoosh of the expresso machine, sounds of kitchen activity and the happy murmur of diners. Built of local stone, Clyde’s 1890’s post office is now deservedly a favourite café and bar with locals and Rail Trailers alike.

As the accompanying photos show, Chef Richie and his business and life partner Janine have gone out of their way to create a uniquely Central Otago ambience. Guests are offered the delicious choice of dining in the main building, the terrace addition or outdoors in the cottage-style garden.

Chef Richie and his Japan trained assistant chef are committed to the highest standards of culinary excellence.  Fresh local produce is the order of the day and while the menu changes with the seasons, many of the best-loved dishes are available year round. Yummy old-fashioned tomato and chill bean nachos with sour cream and melted cheese.

The Post Office Asian basket with its eye-candy selection of dim sims, mini spring rolls, samosas and wontons with soya and sweet chilly dipping sauces. Mouthwatering homemade pies.

For conferences or occasions such as wedding parties the Post Office Café can comfortably cater to up to 140 (90 inside, 50 outside)
