Built in 1898 as Omakau's original homestead for the Leask family, its many bedrooms have been hotel accommodation since 1909. The Otago Central Rail Trail has given the hotel a new lease on life. Winters have been a busy time working on a number of refurbishment projects including bringing the native wood flooring back to its original beauty.

They don’t know it, but most New Zealanders know the Omakau Commercial. Its original schist stables set the scene for an enormously popular ‘Good On Ya Mate’ Speight’s Beer commercials. The most popular being "The Two Tickets to the Ball.” Fondly called "McKinnons", and now used for functions, it is open throughout the day so you can come and see this wonderful old building – bring your camera!

We are open 364 days a year for your dining requirements. Dinner bookings are essential in busy season so we can provide the level of service we strive for – see you soon!
