Opened December 2010
This is Rail Trail eat-in and take-out food at its tastiest, nutritious and freshest best.
Just look at what's on the menu...
Scrumptious salads (green, roasted and pasta), mouth-watering rolls, gourmet sandwiches, epicurean wraps, stuffed potatoes, hot soups, homemade pies, scones, cakes... and lots more delicious, healthy eating. As well as espresso coffee and a selection of teas, refreshments include everything from bottled water to beers (Speights and Ranfurly Draught, of course) through to white and red wines (Central Otago pinots, naturally).
Owners Philippa Pope and her mother Barbara, purpose-built the Ida Valley Kitchen in Oturehua Village to provide those doing the Otago Central Rail Trail with what they call 'grab and go' food.
“Walk into the Ida Valley Kitchen and you'll immediately see what we mean by 'grab and go'. Everything is there in food cabinets for you to make you choice, so there's no having to wait,” explains Philippa. “You're welcome to 'eat in' at our indoor and under-verandah tables and chairs, or sink into one of our soft couches – pure bliss for anyone feeling a bit saddle sore. We're also just as happy for you to take-out to picnic in Oturehua or along the trail. Because of our size we welcome large groups.”
