Lauder Store B & B
Pam & Bruce Walker welcome you to Lauder Store. They are situated right on the Otago Central Rail Trail and offer you a luxurious and comfortable stay after a long day on the trail.
People from all over the world stay at Lauder Store and Pam & Bruce enjoy hearing about and sharing in their holiday adventures. “We also love being involved in the wider community of the OCRT. It is rewarding and inspiring and working as a team alongside other operators makes it a richer and more positive experience”.
What was your inspiration to run our business in Central Otago supporting the Otago Central Rail Trail?
We love to see OCRT rail trailers enjoying themselves and experiencing the Central Otago landscapes and the history. The opportunity to meet people from all over the world and hear their stories is inspiring.
We also find it inspiring to be working as a team with other OCRT operators, all of whom have a similar goal of making the OCRT experience as positive and rewarding as possible.
Lauder Store stands apart because?.....
We strive to provide a friendly and welcoming place of rest and relaxation after a day on the trail. We want every guest to leave Lauder Store feeling positive, refreshed and ready for another day.
Although Lauder Store has been tastefully refurbished it still retains much charm and character from the period when it was a general store in the early 1900s.
What do you enjoy the most?
Greeting and meeting our guests and making sure they are well looked after. We find it fascinating to hear about where people are from and what led them to doing the OCRT. Some of the stories are really inspiring but everyone has their own interesting story to tell.
What our your tips for planning a trip on the OCRT?
- Be prepared for any weather – clothing, sunscreen, gloves, hats, sunglasses
- Carry a waterproof bag to keep your seat dry if it rains
- Have a padded seat if you are not a regular cyclist
- Wear colourful clothes so other members of your group can see you easily
- Leave early each day to make time for sightseeing along the way, taking photos and relaxing when you get to your next accommodation

Our outdoor luxury spa pool is a well-earned treat after a long day.
Lauder Store Accommodation was built in 1890 and operated as a General Store and a Post Office until1995. Restoration then took place and an extension was added to create the Lauder Store B & B as it is today. The original mud brick walls have been exposed and sealed as a feature in the Old Store apartment area. These walls add much character and beauty to this part of the house.
Lauder is a small community with a big heart. The village is friendly and welcoming, and many people come to Lauder to make a half or one day ride to the stunning Poolburn Gorge. The spectacular viaducts and tunnels found in this area are often thought to be one of the best experiences of the trail. If you have limited time bike hire is available from Lauder Store to experience the dramatic Poolburn. Why not stay a night and explore this beautiful part of Central Otago.
